A Resurrection Interview

Recently, I was asked to develop interview questions regarding the death and resurrection of Jesus. These questions would then be used to conduct an interview with a faithful person of my choice. I chose to ask my physics and robotics teacher, Lilian Teillers. Mrs. Teillers is a friend to all whom she interacts with at school. She always shares her faith through daily prayer and is always there to discuss anything; that being robots, technology, physics homework, or Jesus. I found myself previously curious about her life and her faith, so I was glad to take this opportunity to interview her.

Was there a time when you doubted Jesus's resurrection?

No. Except when I had a couple of days where I woke up and I had no faith, it was like there was a memory of it only, which is very disturbing. Fortunately, it lasted only for a couple of days. And then that became a memory. It just happened for a couple of days. It made a big impression on me.

How old were you when that happened?

I was old. I think it happened last year. Yeah, it was very distressing.

Over time, have you found yourself changing in your view of Jesus's resurrection?

Yeah, I became more aware of the sacrifice that it was. So I became more aware of the physical process of the crucifixion, and then the resurrection. I had a near-death experience myself, but that was not painful. I became more aware of the true sacrifice, which was the separation of God during crucifixion, so it became more meaningful to me.

How does your faith in Jesus's resurrection influence your perspective on life's challenges or difficult circumstances?

I think it makes it so I can see everything in more perspective. Because even when bad things happen, here on Earth; in the timeline, it is just such a small minute amount of time. And knowing that makes it easier to bear.

How do Jesus' resurrection, and His sacrifice influence how you perceive yourself and other people.

I think it's an incredible sacrifice, so that humbles me and makes me more grateful. It makes me incredibly grateful. I am grateful beyond measure. And how I view other people is that he also did that for them. So I just hope that they can acknowledge that and understand that at some point, and accept Him as their Lord and Savior.

Did you grow up in a faithful environment?

Yeah, I grew up in the Catholic Church, which actually drew me to really study the Bible, just to double-check on their practices. To be honest, that happened in elementary school.

Were you always that interested in the Bible and checking beliefs?

No, but I always felt near to Jesus. I cannot remember a time where I did not know or believe that he was real. So I would always want him to be reflected in truth. I had a very strong feeling about that. Sometimes, I feel like some people think you have born again or something.

Closing:

Out of Mrs. Teiller’s answers in this interview, what most stood out to me was her overflowing faith. She broke the construct that very faithful Christians have to be born again, stating that she has always believed in Jesus. The only shifts in her belief have been through the strengthening of her sureness; the reach of her love for the Father through the Son’s resurrection. I learned that although someone may come of age in an environment that creates questions of their beliefs, they can be led to somewhere that is prospering in love and faith and mercy, ultimately leading them to the Father.
